Cath Yankson

Cath Yankson

I am a Reg MBACP Accred counsellor/psychotherapist and I have worked in this role for over 15 years. I work with both young people and adult individual clients, either on short term contracts or on a longer term therapeutic basis, depending on what we both believe to be necessary.

I offer a collaborative approach to counselling/psychotherapy which is both client-centred and interpretive, as appropriate.  My aim is to focus on both current difficulties and past experience, in an attempt to perhaps uncover patterns of behaviour and discover more useful ways of managing discomfort or distress. This approach focuses on the whole person (emotional, behavioural, cognitive etc) and is based on a relational approach. I believe that it is the therapeutic relationship that fundamentally leads to change.

I have a background in education and, as well as working as a counsellor/psychotherapist, I have also worked as a teacher (working with asylum seeking and refugee communities, as well as international students, both adults and young people); and support worker and facilitator (working with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, sensory impairment and enduring illnesses). As such, I have developed a respectful and enabling approach to working with individuals experiencing many forms of psychological distress. The values that are reflected in my work include reliability, transparency, trustworthiness and respect for individual experience.
